My Tutorial on using OpenOffice Writer to edit an Ancestor .RTF Report has been updated to encompass the changes made in the current version of OO.o (3.2).

Large number of additions to the family of John Ferguson born in Hulme, Manchester 1846. many of these are his grandchildren found through the 1911 English Census.

With thanks to to excellent service of the National Archives of Australia, it has been possible to include the WW2 Service in the Australian Army, with photo, of Joseph John Barton born in 1922/1923. This confusion in the date of birth is because his Service Record states 1922 whilst his English birth index states 1923.

The ancestors of John Bostock of Wrexham but living in Prescot, first husband of Sarah Makin, have been added, with thanks to Patricia Houghton.

The Forsyth Family has been expanded with thanks due to Rob Forsyth and additions to the family of Elizabeth Lyon have been made.

A total of 110 new names and 10 new surnames have been added.

The Mather families of Haydock in 1911 have also been completed and particular attention is drawn to Henry Mather

Thanks are given to Kim Juniper for many additions to the family of Herman Bailey Lynn of Canada.

In effect this video is a description of how to open Access (*mdb) files in OOo.

Although there are alternative ways of doing this, "Query by Example" has been used in order to illustarte how this search operates.

The example is not so important, but it serves to show the usage of many of the Legacy searching techniques which can be applied to a wide variety of other situations.

Other additions include the descendants of Anson Albert Lynn of Canada, and the Askew Family from Westmorland, England.

Some additions have also been made to the web book reviews and web software pages.

As far as I can see the problems have now been corrected, but with nearly 6000 pages some errors may still exist - if you find some do please let me know.

Nevertheless, the display in IE6 is not as good as that in Firefox3 and the later versions of IE.

For best presentation, Java needs to be enabled, also Javascript and Flash need to be installed.

For me, the most interesting was the discovery that Mary Ann Ackers was also know as Mrs Skidmore. From his obituary, I have known of a sister of Edward Joseph Hayes called Mrs Skidmore, but I could not identify her. I now know that Mary Ann married a Matthias Skidmore in 1915.

There are also some minor additions to the family of John Rogers.

Initially the books are history related but this will be expanded over time to cover a variety of fact and fiction.

26 new individuals have been added, the Bradshaw family related to the Pilkingtons from St. Helens, Lancashire and the Boyd family who, through marriage, are related to the descendants of James Ferguson of Kendal, Westmorland.

This tutorial gives the basic CSS necessary to use the program in order to change the styles of the Legacy Pedigree web pgages It shows how to change the CSS and relates the styles to the HTML properties of the pages.

A new GUI has neen added to FamGedCon, the OpenOffice.org based free downloadable contacts database for genealogists. The improvements give improved access, and in particular better editing.

Work has continued on the Bingham family, the main additions being to the families of Henry Bingham & Elizabeth Ormrod

Following the release of the 1911 English census work has been commenced on entering these details, starting with the close families.

68 new names (plus 11 private) and 5 new surnames have been added. Acknowlegements are made to Glenda Lynch and Jennifer Beaumont for their help.

There have not been any additions to the family files during December as concentration has been on the completion of the rewrite of the site. Regular visitors will see that much has been converted from .html to .php. This was necessary to expand the pedigree pages - the bulk of the site. 301 Redirects have been incorporated in order that old bookmarks will still work.

The photo albums have been replaced by Flash and the contents revised. A new Books Section has been incorporated reviewing genealogy and web design publications. The off-site links have been updated and new ones added.

During very early January the site will be off-line for about 1/2 a day as the site is transferred to a new host server. This is essential as my old host has sold the business! Hopefully, the transfer will be problem free.

1. The descendants of Richard Booth (b. 1743) added. Isabella Booth (b. 1808), his grand-daughter married James Ferguson of Kendal.
2. Added family of Sam Lindley (b. 1856) in Sheffield. Sam married Mary Ellen Mather (b. 1859) of St. Helens.
3. Also the family of Ann Harper (b. 1835) who married James Mather (b. 1832) in St Helens.
4. The William Ovens of Ireland and the Powells of Tunbridge Wells have been linked to the Bingham family.

Correction to the family file

Please note that the spouse of Thomas Pugh and his descendants is now known to be incorrect. A correction to the site will be made at the end of October.

Expansion of the Pugh and Bingham Families

After a long delay the marriage and family of Thomas Pugh born in Wolverhampton has now been found.
Thomas, my 1st cousin twice removed, has been a problem because of the number of possible families, and appreciation is extended to Karen Dorward for her help in resolving this.

Work is continuing on the Bingham family with the concentration being on the family of John Bingham born Bramley, Yorkshire in 1881.
Additionally, the family of Lydia Cooper has also been recorded. Lydia was the wife of William Bingham born 1863 in Wakefield.

Additions to the Lowes and Robinsons

Some additonal records have been entered for the marriages of these two families, these cover the two periods:

• Jan 1877 - Dec 1883
• Nov 1826 - Dec 1833

Additions to the Ferguson Family Tree

The major addition has been the expansion of the Bingham family with over 100 individuals added.
Of these about half were from the Bingham and Barton families with the Bingham line extending back to about 1800 in Dublin.

Included in the above are 8 new surnames, and more work will be done with this family during September.

Monthly Tree Updates

Many new records have been added to the parish register records of the Pearson family
with some other additions to those of the Lowe and Robinson families

In the main these are christening records with a smaller number of marriages

A basic tutorial on inserting pictures into generated web pages using html tables and javascript. It illustrates how to place expanding thumbnails into an already created web page using a javascript function.

At the end of July 43 new individuals and 6 new surnames were added to the site. The main additions were of the Aldred family from Eccles, Lancashire and Fergusons, descendants of Ben Ferguson of Kendal, Westmorland.

These bring the total number of individuals to 4980 with 801 surnames.
